The Story Behind Vishwakarma Puja

Vishwakarma Puja began in ancient times and is based on Hindu scriptures. Lord Vishwakarma is known as the divine architect and the creator of the universe.

Mentioned in the Rigveda, he is seen as the force behind the design and structure of the universe, embodying pure creative brilliance.

Mythology credits him with constructing some of the most iconic realms and weapons in Hindu lore, from building the majestic city of Dvaraka for Lord Krishna, to crafting the palace of Indraprastha for the Pandavas.

He’s also believed to have designed powerful celestial weapons like Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra, Shiva’s trishula, and Kartikeya’s divine lance.

Beyond these legendary feats, he is said to have authored the Sthapatya Veda, a sacred text detailing ancient knowledge of architecture and mechanical design.

As a result, Vishwakarma is honored as the guardian and inspiration for those who work with tools, machinery, and design.

Over time, a tradition grew to dedicate a day to him, when workers, artisans, engineers, and craftsmen worship their instruments and machinery as a mark of respect.

Vishwakarma Puja isn’t just a ritual, it’s a celebration of human ingenuity, divine inspiration, and the craftsmanship that shapes our world.

Vishwakarma Puja Across The Country

In factories, workshops, and industrial sites, the celebration begins with thoroughly cleaning and decorating the workspace.

Machines, tools, and equipment are washed, polished, and adorned with garlands and colored powders to prepare them for worship.

Temporary shrines are set up at the workplace, usually on the shop floor or near machinery. A picture or idol of Lord Vishwakarma is placed at the center, surrounded by the tools and instruments used by workers.

Before beginning the puja, workers take a bath and wear clean clothes to purify themselves for the ritual.

They gather at the shrine to offer prayers with incense sticks, flowers, turmeric, and kumkum, reciting mantras to seek the deity’s blessings.

Fruits, sweets, and prasada are placed in front of the idol, and after the ceremony, the offerings are distributed among all workers as a sign of divine grace.
