Use this quick table to find the day number at the start of each month. In leap years, dates after Feb 28 are one day higher.
| Month | Normal year | Leap year |
|---|---|---|
| January | Day 1 | Day 1 |
| February | Day 32 | Day 32 |
| March | Day 60 | Day 61 |
| April | Day 91 | Day 92 |
| May | Day 121 | Day 122 |
| June | Day 152 | Day 153 |
| July | Day 182 | Day 183 |
| August | Day 213 | Day 214 |
| September | Day 244 | Day 245 |
| October | Day 274 | Day 275 |
| November | Day 305 | Day 306 |
| December | Day 335 | Day 336 |
A leap year has 366 days instead of 365, adding February 29. That means the day number for any date from March 1 to December 31 increases by 1 compared to a normal year.
Example
If the selected date is March 1, the day number is 60 in a normal year and 61 in a leap year because Feb 29 adds one extra day.
This page shows today's day number based on the current date in the United States and updates automatically. The day number tells you how far into the year a date falls.
It is the position of a date within the year, from 1 to 365 in a normal year or 1 to 366 in a leap year. January 1 is always Day 1, and December 31 is Day 365 (or 366).
That is the same as today's day number. For example, Day 100 means 99 days have already passed and the year is 100 days in.
Leap years add February 29th. This means dates after February 28 have a day number that is 1 higher than in a normal year. For example, March 1 is Day 60 in a normal year but Day 61 in a leap year.
People often use "Julian date" to mean the day of year number, but the term can also refer to other date systems. This page uses the simple day-of-year count from 1 to 365 or 366.
