National Letter to an Elder Day is observed every year on February 26. It’s a simple, heart-led observance that encourages you to write a handwritten letter to an elder- someone you love, someone you admire, or even a stranger who could use a little warmth.
This February 26, make someone happy, make someone feel cherished.

History of National Letter to an Elder Day
National Letter to an Elder Day was founded by Love For Our Elders, a nonprofit started by Jacob Cramer that focuses on reducing social isolation among older adults through letters and other outreach.
Here’s how the day began.
After losing his grandfather, Jacob began volunteering at a senior community and noticed how many residents rarely received visitors or messages. That experience pushed him to start writing letters and to build what became Love For Our Elders.
The first “Letter to an Elder Day” event took place in 2020 at Whispering Pines Rehab and Nursing Center in East Haven, Connecticut, where handwritten letters were distributed to residents.
February 26 was chosen to honor Jacob’s grandmother Doris’ birthday, tying the day to the personal tradition of letters and family connection.
