Honesty Day
Only tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on April 30, because it is National Honesty Day. This day encourages us to be truthful and straightforward in our lives and promotes honest communication in politics, education, and relationships.
April is a month that starts with pranks and lies, on April Fool's Day, and ends with a day that reminds us all of how important it is to be honest in all aspects of our lives.
National Honesty Day Origin
This holiday was created by M. Hirsh Goldberg, a former press secretary for the state of Maryland. He is also the author of the novel "The Book of Lies: Fibs, Tales, Schemes, Scams, Fakes, and Frauds That Have Changed The Course of History and Affect Our Daily Lives".
Goldberg established the holiday in 1991, when he was doing research for his book, and because he wanted to create a day that contrasted with April Fools. He also wanted to create an opportunity for people to have honest communications, encouraging them to ask each other questions on this day and be radically honest with their answers.
Eventually, National Honesty Day turned into a campaign to promote honesty in politics, education, and business relationships. It denounces politicians telling deceitful lies, such as what happened during the Watergate Scandal, schools not teaching correct facts to students, and companies who use deceitful practices with their customers.
To encourage the end of dishonesty in these fields, every April 30, Goldberg awards companies, groups, and organizations who have kept true to themselves and upheld honesty in their practices.
Honesty Day also pushes us to be honest in our daily lives, not only with others but with ourselves. It is important to face the truth and to be truthful too. Sometimes we tell lies or fibs in an effort to protect ourselves and others, but the saying is true that honesty is the best policy. By being honest you bond with other people, strengthen relationships, and become known as someone who is trustworthy.
Celebrate National Honesty Day
This day is all about radical honesty and being truthful, so try to uphold that and be someone who is honest. However, don't let this be an excuse to be cruel, being honest and truthful is also about being kind.
Let this holiday teach you how to be more transparent and open up to someone you've been wanting to tell something to. And don't forget to come clean about any lies you might have told.
You can also take this opportunity to ask a question to someone that you've wanted to know the answer to for a long time. Just make sure that they know what day it is today.
