International Kids' Yoga Day 2026 falls on Friday, April 10

In a world where childhood is increasingly shaped by screens, packed schedules, stress and constant stimulation, yoga offers something beautifully simple: a pause. For children, that pause can look like a stretch, a breath, a laugh in tree pose, or a few quiet moments of feeling steady in their own bodies.

That is what makes International Kids’ Yoga Day so meaningful. Let the children have fun today!

In 2026, 22 countries and close to 9000 kids are participating.

History and origin of International Kids’ Yoga Day

The day was founded by Teresa Ann Power, an internationally recognised children’s yoga educator and bestselling author of 'The ABCs of Yoga for Kids.' Power’s own website describes her as the founder of International Kids Yoga Day and says the mission behind it is to make the life-changing practice of yoga accessible to everyone.

At home, it can begin with just five or ten minutes: a few child-friendly poses, a breathing exercise, and a short moment of stillness. Let children pretend to be animals, trees, kites or windmills. Make it playful. Let them laugh. The point is not technical precision. The point is participation and comfort.

In schools, the day can be built into a morning assembly, physical education period, classroom brain break or library activity. In community spaces, it can become a small group session in a park, studio, housing society or local centre.

Significance of This Day

International Kids’ Yoga Day speaks directly to what many parents and teachers are worried in today's age including stress, poor attention, emotional overload, and low physical activity. That is one reason the day resonates beyond the yoga community. It gives adults a simple, low-pressure framework to introduce children to movement and mindfulness without turning it into another performance or competition.

In fact, the US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends yoga as a safe and potentially effective therapy for children and adolescents coping with emotional, mental, physical and behavioral health conditions.
