Engineer's Day was first celebrated in India on September 15, 1968, in honor of the birthday of the eminent engineer and visionary, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Most popularly known as Sir M. Visvesvaraya was born on September 15th, 1861 in a remote village located in Karnataka.
