National Public Lands Day

Next Saturday, 27 September 2025

On the fourth Saturday of September every year, National Public Lands Day is celebrated to cherish and honor the significance of America's public lands.

National Public Lands Day urges people to acknowledge nature, appreciate it and give back to mother earth via volunteering and reconnecting with the outdoors.

On this day, we come together with the aim to preserve parks, forests, and natural landscapes around us.

Background of National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day was celebrated for the first time in 1994 which was organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation.

The aim was to bring communities together to restore and protect the public lands of the nation.

The day has gained significant popularity since then and became into the largest single day volunteer event for public lands in the United States.

The U.S. government also supports this initiative by offering free entry to all national parks on this day, encouraging more people to explore and connect with nature.

Since its beginning, millions of volunteers have contributed their time and effort, making a positive impact on forests, rivers, parks, and historical sites.

Celebrating National Public Lands Day

The easiest most convenient way to celebrate the day is by spending some time outdoors. You can go for a hike and clean up as much as you can or join a local volunteer event and contribute to the cause.

Simple things such as sharing it on social media and spreading the correct information also helps you do your part.

We must remember that no matter what, preserving the Nation's Public Land is our responsibility and we should take care of it.
