Who Started Sisters' Day

Tricia Eleogram of Tennessee is believed to have started Sisters' Day back in 1996. However, the bond shared between sisters and siblings have been celebrated for centuries in many different cultures in different ways.

For example, in India, there is a celebration called Raksha Bandhan that honors and commemorates the relationship between brothers and sisters.

Why is there a Sisters' Day: Significance of Sister's Day

Sisterhood can have a lot of meanings.

The most obvious one is that of a biological sister, someone who you grew up with and share one or two parents. In fact, over 80% of Americans have a sibling!

However, sister can also be used to refer to a very close friend of yours, who is always there to support you. If you are or were a member of a sorority it is also likely that you see the other members as sisters!

Sisters' Day exists exactly because all these bonds are so important, and some of the strongest relationships you have are likely with someone who you see as a sister, one way or another, and it is important to show your sister, or sisters, how much you appreciate having them in your life.
