On June 9 every year, National No Apologies Period Day is observed.

It is an initiative that promotes period positivity and encourages breaking the stigma, taboo, shame, and unnecessary apologies related to menstruation.

The day was founded in 2021 by Midol with the aim of normalizing menstruation and encouraging conversations about it.

Menstruation is a natural biological process, and no individual should be shamed for that. That is why it is so important to speak openly and educate everyone around about periods.

It reminds us that we should not let anyone around be embarrassed for experiencing the wonders of Mother Nature.

For many centuries, people, especially women, have been taught that periods are something nasty and impure and should be kept a secret.

This made them develop a need for apologizing for symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, cramps, or even buying period supplies.

So this day was established to shift the narrative and push people to stop apologizing for a bodily function.

Even today, when there is so much awareness, menstruation is still talked about in a hush-hush tone in several places.

National No Apologies Period Day makes an effort to throw away outdated beliefs and push open discussions on menstrual health and hygiene.

Observing National No Apologies Period Day

To do your part in this day, start by sharing your story and talk openly about the challenges you have faced and how you overcame it.

Use the hashtag #NoApologiesPeriod and spread awareness on social media; encourage menstruators to be unapologetic.

There are many menstrual health organizations that you can support and donate menstrual products to.

Even though there is awareness, there's not enough knowledge about menstrual health and the common symptoms. It is a lot more than bleeding, and that is something people need to know. It is important to share proper information about it.

Many advocacy groups and wellness organizations host discussions, educational workshops, and community gatherings focused on menstrual health and empowerment.
