National Get Over It Day

Next Monday, 9 March 2026

Observed on March 9, National Get Over It Day is a quirky and unofficial day that encourages us to let go and move on.

It is a refreshing and fun day that is dedicated to forgetting grudges, harsh breakups, or any moment that keeps you up at night or comes back at random moments.

So, National Get Over It Day is your official sign to pull yourself together, take a deep breath, and get over it.

You can also make it way more meaningful by jotting down the things living in your head rent-free and tossing them away or burning the papers.

Background of National Get Over It Day

Jeff Goldblatt created National Get Over It Day in 2005. He went through a bad breakup and was struggling to move on.

So, he created this day, inspired by his own breakup, to encourage others to move on.

He chose March 9 for this observance, so it is strategically placed between Valentine's Day and April Fool's Day.

Based in Atlanta, Jeff was an entrepreneur. He also created a website and wrote a poem to begin the holiday, calling it “The GetOverItDay.com Purpose & Perspective Poem."

How to Observe National Get Over It Day

There is no point in holding onto regrets, grudges, or disappointments, as it just hampers your mood and wastes your energy.

Letting go does not justify the things that happened with you; it just means you are choosing peace over everything.

National Get Over It Day helps you grow by promoting resilience and emotional strength while reminding you that not everything is in your control.

Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is move forward. Release what you have been holding onto by reflecting on it and get the closure you need.

Delete the messages and memories, donate the gifts and things, and unfollow them completely.

Take this moment to start a new project, habit, or aim that shifts your perspective and makes a positive impact.

Or simply take a long walk, breathe deeply, and remind yourself that you deserve peace.

Whether you are getting over a bad day, a bad decision, or a bad year, this is your moment.

Because sometimes the most powerful words you can tell yourself are simple: it is time to get over it.
