National Simp Day
Every year on June 3rd, the internet stops arguing for exactly one day to celebrate the one thing Gen Z refuses to admit they all are. Grab a tissue, text your crush back immediately, and welcome to National Simp Day.
At its core, the day is about breaking the stigma around the word "simp" flipping it from a slur into something worth celebrating. The idea? That showing kindness, care, and genuine affection for another person shouldn't be something you get roasted for. And honestly? Considering the state of modern dating, we could all stand to hear that message a little more.

Did You Know Where the Word Simp Came From
1985: Rapper Too Short popularizes "simp" in Pimpology, using it to describe a man who is overly sympathetic or controlled by a woman. It circulates through hip-hop circles as a gentle insult.
2005: Urban Dictionary adds the formal entry: "a guy who does way too much for a person they like." The internet now has receipts. The word escapes hip-hop and goes mainstream online.
2019: The Simp Nation TikTok challenge explodes. Teens describe failed romantic gestures and "welcome themselves" to Simp Nation to the tune of a Smash Mouth × Post Malone remix. A new era begins.
Early 2020s: National Simp Day takes root on June 3 officially created as a counter-movement to celebrate the positive side of being a simp: care, devotion, and emotional openness.
Be a Simp, Celebrate National Simp Day
- Text the Person You've Been Overthinking You know the one. The message you've drafted and deleted seventeen times. Today is literally the one day where the internet has collectively agreed it's okay to send it.
- Appreciate the Simps in Your Life Got a friend who always shows up? A partner who remembers your order, your bad days, your favorite song? Today is when you reverse the direction of the appreciation. Tell them you see it.
Yes we know it is an unserious but is it really? In a culture that rewards coolness over care, choosing to openly adore someone is quietly one of the bravest things a person can do.
And there's something genuinely sweet about the fact that this holiday was created not by a brand, not by a celebrity, but by regular people on the internet who decided that "simp" should mean something better than what it had become.
