Pay a Compliment Day

Next Friday, 6 February 2026

Pay a Compliment Day is observed annually on February 6 to preach the simple message that kind words make a huge difference.

When someone is down, nothing uplifts their mood like hearing a genuinely nice thing about themselves.

While there is no day to appreciate someone or make their day with kind words, there are times we need a little nudge.

There has always been a time when many of us stayed silent when we should not have and walked away from conversations when we should have spoken up.

Pay a Compliment Day is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the situation and express yourself.

History of Pay a Compliment Day

Adrienne Koopersmith created Pay a Compliment Day in 1995 with a small but effective idea on a relatively colder day in Chicago.

Koopersmith observed a panicked person waving frantically to get on a bus even though he was not standing at a bus stop while he was riding it.

The bus driver kindly stopped and let them in, and before getting off the bus, he thanked the driver and paid a compliment.

That brief exchange left such a lasting impact that she decided to turn the spirit of that moment into a holiday.

How to observe Pay A Compliment Day

It is not the easiest task to pay a genuine compliment always; some overdo it, some hold back, and some just stay silent.

When it comes to compliments, keep it simple and honest and say it from your heart even if you stutter in the middle.

There is power in imperfectly expressing your feelings as they embody genuineness.

Pay a Compliment Day celebrates small acts of kindness. A few sincere words can brighten someone’s day and create lasting connections.
