Some 1100–1150 lemons were widely distributed and cultivated across the Arab world and the Mediterranean region. During this period, lemons became a common fruit in these areas and were used in various cultural and culinary practices.

Lemon farming witnessed significant growth, especially in Florida and California by the 19th century, when lemons became a major agricultural product.
James Lind, a Scottish physician, carried out experiments on sailors who suffered from scurvy, a disease caused due to the deficiency of vitamin C in 1747. He started adding lemon juice to their diets as part of his trials.
