On May 13 annually, Tulip Day is observed to celebrate the bright flowers that bloom during the spring season.

Known for their vivid colors and elegant shapes, tulips usually symbolize springtime happiness, love, and beauty.

Whether you are a flower lover or looking for an excuse to make someone's day, this day is your perfect excuse to celebrate them.

Tulips were originally found in Central Asia, but they were cultivated as early as 1000 A.D. in Turkey, where they were grown for medical purposes.

It became a favorite in the Ottoman Empire, especially among sultans, in no time so much so that they demanded the cultivation of tulips for the purpose of their sole pleasure.

Tulips were found in Europe for the first time during the 16th century when biologist Carolus Clusius planted them in Holland after receiving tulip bulbs from a Turkish ambassador, which marked the beginning of the famous tulip fields in the Netherlands.

Tulips made the shift from medicinal to decorative purposes by the end of the 17th century and were highly demanded.

This led to the period of Tulipomania, when tulips became so valuable that even property was exchanged for a single piece of a flower.

Although the tulip market crashed in 1637, tulips remain a key symbol of Dutch culture and horticulture.

How to Celebrate Tulip Day

If you know a tulip lover, then start by lighting their day up with a colorful bouquet of tulips. Sending tulips is a gesture of love, friendship, and appreciation, and whoever receives them will surely have a bright smile on their face.

Whether it is for your partner, friend, or family member, there are simple yet deep ways of celebrating the spirit of Tulip Day.

You can also go the extra mile and gift them tulip-shaped decors or accessories or plant tulips in your garden.
